Specialist School Status > Extended Schools > Enterprise Morning
In the last Term, all year groups were involved in Enterprise activities.
On Enterprise morning (7th March), all year groups devoted the whole morning to Enterprise related activities. YEAR 7 working in small groups developed a range of Enterprise capability skills by designing and making a Rollercoaster from straws and glue. This activity was supported by HUMBER EBLO and Local Industrialists.
YEAR 8 completed their design and make project, which had been spread over 3 half day periods of time; working in small groups, pupils designed and made a product with the winning team from each form group going forward to the grand final (April 20th) which was judged by 10 visitors into school, from YOUNG ENTERPRISE, LOCAL BUSINESS and COMMERCE and HULL UNIVERSITY STAFF AND STUDENTS. Parents of successful teams were also present. The overall winners will go on to the area competition at Hull University Business School.
YEAR 9 had a drugs awareness activity supported by outside agencies.
YEAR 10 visited local industries or participated in activities delivered by the Armed Forces.
YEAR 11 did their final preparation for the qualification of “Certificate in Preparation for Working Life”, worth 1/2 GCSE at level 1 or 2. Last year we had a 90% success rate at level 2
Company Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
Company Enterprise activities continue with 25 YEAR 10 pupils spread across 3 different companies, all successfully profitable and guided by local industrialists from Croda and Young Enterprise. As well as the experience of managing a company, pupils will also take the GCSE in Enterprise Education.
Our Business awareness day for YEAR 9 focused on Entrepreneurship. The day was supported by an outside company; YOUNG BIZ and proved to be very successful.
As well as encouraging future Entrepreneurs, we also anticipate an increase in our numbers studying Business related subjects at KS4.
We were successful in our bid for Northern Way KS3 funding for staff training where we intend to focus on identifying Enterprise capability in the curriculum and PSHCE, Monitoring and Evaluation of Enterprise activities, Assessment of Enterprise and Financial Capability.
Our Community Provision continues to develop, we are now a registered ECDL centre and a good range of courses for all ages and interests are now on offer.
We are particularly pleased with our work with ‘The Goddards’, a home for adults with particular learning needs. Both photographic and computer courses have been provided for all residents.
