Specialist School Status > Extended Schools > Primary Workshops
All year 6 pupils from our feeder primary schools have the opportunity to attend transition workshops in Maths at The Snaith School.
Our feeder primary schools are:
- Snaith Primary School
- Cowick Primary School
- Pollington-Balne Primary School
- Rawcliffe Primary School
- Rawcliffe Bridge Primary School
- Carlton-in-Snaith Primary School
- Hensall Community Primary School
All workshops at school are seen as an opportunity for pupils to be Enterprising and as a tool to help transition, so all pupils are taken out of their normal social groups and are mixed with children from other schools who will also be attending The Snaith School in year 7.
Real Maths
Children were introduced to the concept of ‘Real Maths’ by a number of means; the first part of the morning focused around healthy activities. Pupils were split into groups and took part in an orienteering session around the school grounds, this up skilled them in Maths as well as introduced them to the geography of the school site. They then went on to a fitness session where they recorded their pulse rates and did other calculations that they could plot on graphs.
After a lunch at school, pupils did a session on Barcodes, supported by Arcadia Leeds, who loaned the school scanning equipment.
Gifted and Talented Maths
The Gifted and Talented sessions here at school are aimed specifically at those children who are excelling in Maths and are gaining level 5 or above at their primary schools.
Sessions are fun but challenging and help to prepare the children for a much larger arena, where their skills can be developed and nurtured.
ICT Workshops
The ICT workshops take place over one morning in April or June and staff from both the ICT department and Technology lead the carousel of three sessions which focus on the theme of control.
This year the pupils also had a taste of animation.
