The school council is an opportunity for the pupils of the school to put forward their opinions of how the school is run. They meet monthly, usually in PHSCEE, with two representatives from e­ach form group and from the youth assembly attending.

We have interviewed the representatives from the year 7 forms to see what their first impression of the council was. Most of the representatives were chosen to represent their form by their form tutor, but some were voted on by their form group and one group chose theirs out of a hat.

The thing that almost everyone said they liked the most was that they had a say in how the school is run and enjoyed the responsibility given to them by the role. As we write this, they have only attended 1 meeting, but tell us that they are looking forward to the next. After the meeting, they relay the key points to their form and form tutor. There were not many negative points, but minority of pupils said they were intimidated by the fact that there were years 7 through to year 11 present, but in the future there will be separate lower and upper school meetings.
