Art
Year 8 - 'Unusual materials'challenge - provides an opportunity for very ambitious work.
Year 11 - 5 day residential in Barcelona - An opportunity to gather research and inspiration for both coursework and controlled test.
Business Studies
Year 9 - G&T pupils invited to trial 'Slimventure' - a business simulation aimed at allowing students to experience running a business. This was conducted in 'Business Club', meeting at lunchtimes and attended by external visitors.
Year 10 - Many pupils involved with Company Enterprise through Young Enterprise.
Year 11 - Pupils are being offered the opportunity to complete extra curricular economics GCSE in their own time.
Drama
Year 7-9 -More able pupils are steered into more challenging roles and encouraged to attend the Drama Club after school on Wednesdays, ultimately leading to a performance. Performances are at Christmas and in the Summer term.
Yr 11 -Students are offered lunch and after school sessions to further develop skills.
Pupils with advanced skills are given the opportunity to work with, more challenging, A level scripts in addition to being encouraged to attend Drama club after school on Wednesdays 3.45 - 4.45.
English
Year 10 -Coming in the Summer term is an opportunity for pupils to publish their very own newspaper.
Pupils will spend 3-4 weeks writing and publishing a newspaper in conjunction wih PA News.
Lunchtime sessions within school will be available for pupils to research, discuss and write articles for a newspaper under the supervision of an elected student editor.
This work continues in a two day workshop in Howden where they have access to the technology and expertise necessary to transfer and digitise their work, culminating in publishing their own newspaper.
The newspaper will then be distributed in school and to the local community.

ICT
Year 8 - Missionmaker; twilight session 3.30 - 5pm. Sophisticated puzzles and challenges can be divised and linked together within fantastic interactive environments. It encourages strategic thinking and planning; builds interpretive and narrative skills.
Year 8/9 - Pupils are given the opportunity of working towards AiDa in the normal discrete ICT - also attending after school sessions to work through the syllabus and testing their skills in the June exam. This could be their GCSE before end of KS3.
Year 10&11 - Saturday workshops at John Leggott College. JLC provide 3 consecutive sessions on A level ICT and work to enhance DiDa. E.g Visual basic, programming, game authoring
Level 10&11 - Pupils can complete an additional module in the time allocated for 1
GCSE (there were 14 this year). 1 pupil has actually completed all 4 modules giving him a possible 4 GCSE's.
Maths
Year 8 - In the spring term G&T pupils from Year 8 take part in a Math's competition against other secondary schools in the area.
The competition is hosted at The Snaith School with prizes sponsored by local business, 'Croda'. The first competition happened Wednesday 23rd January and was very successful, especially as pupils from our very own school won the competition. The competition will return next year.
Year 10 - In the summer term G&T pupils took part in Maths competitions, organised by Leeds University, at New College and John Leggott college.
Also available has been an after school session for pupils wanting to take AS level Maths; pupils who have attended the sessions are now being prepared to sit their first module exam in June. Good luck to all those involved!
MFL
Year 9 - There has been an after school languages group for pupils wishing to learn a second foreign language. This took place on Mondays from 3.30 - 4.30 and was led by Mr Schmitt.
Year 11 - Lunchtime revision/preparation sessions were held for pupils sitting the higher speaking test. Invaluable practice for GCSE German candidates. The sessions were run by Mr Schmitt, Miss Ramsay and Mr Banks.
Music
All years - Available for pupils is the concert band, the folk ensemble and the swing band. The swing band specifically open to those pupils with a Grade 3 or above.
Be a part of the band which most interests you to demonstrate your talent in the Christmas and Summer concerts.
Rehearsal times vary from Monday to Wednesday lunchtimes.
PE
All years - Pupils with sporting talents; being part of a team or club that competed at county level and above, were given the opportunity to join the Developmental Squad.
Every 2/3 months a qualified coach will come and deliver both practical and theory based sessions. On top of this the members have access to internet sites, grants and 'freebies'.
Also available is a summer school where all of the developmental squads across East Riding come together and celebrate sport.
Pupils sporting talents range from football (Sam Masterman and Brad Thompson, both 11RY) to Gymnastics (Kate Grayson).
Also available is the Sprint Challenge. In this activity the top 12 pupils from each year attend a competition at Costello, Hull to identify the fastest runners in the East Riding. This year 41 pupils qualified for the competition.
RE and History
Year 10 - Pupils worked with Yr 5/6 pupils on an 'Archaelogy Project'. Pupils were asked to participate in a dig that took place at Snaith Primary School. The dig lasted 2 days with a further day to record their findings. The dig revealed a range of artefacts including medieval pottery which is now on display in Snaith Primary School.

RE
Year 11 - The RE department is currently investigating the possibility of delivering AS Philosophy and Ethics next year. More details to follow...
Science & Technology
Years 8-10 - 25 G&T pupils from Science, Technology and Maths have joined together to form the schools Science, Technology and Engineering club.
Over the coming year pupils will experience a range of activities that will develop their skills and knowledge of the 3 most important subjects in the school.
Currently the group are building small vehicles and experimenting with different ways in which they can be powered.
Also available has been a 'Champions' program, run by an external agency, in which small groups have been set the challenge of designing an innovative idea that may change the world.
Technology
Year 9 - Pupils identified as G&T in Textiles are given the opportunity to develop their skills, working on practical pieces of work intended for Year 10 pupils.
These extra sessions take place on Friday lunchtimes.
Website development
Year 10 - A group of high ability pupils was established to help set up the school website. The group has designed a newsletter reporting on Year 7's experience of school, covering activities such as East Barnby. This is currently being added to the school website.
