Subjects > Gifted and Talented > What we do for 'Gifted and Talented' pupils

All Gifted and Talented pupils are provided for both in and outside the classroom.

Teaching strategies

Classroom teachers across the curriculum use a variety of teaching strategies within lessons that engage and motivate pupils encouraging them to work independently and develop thinking skills.

Extension

Within lessons, extension tasks are available.  These allow individuals to work on activities normally intended for older pupils or where a greater depth of skill, knowledge or understanding is required.  Such work provides a challenge and is not ‘more of the same’.

Curriculum

Where the timetable allows, teaching groups are arranged so that G&T pupil's are given the opportunity to work with others with similar levels of attainment; working at advanced levels.

Enrichment

Enrichment is work that widens the curriculum with activities usually conducted in addition to normal classroom tasks.  These enrichment tasks range from activities provided by staff from the Snaith school; such as A-level maths and Science and Technology club; to activities provided by outside agencies; such as the ‘Oxbridge’ experience that is provided by John Leggott College.

For a full description of activities see the G&T Bulletin.

Young Gifted and Talented

The school also aims to encourage pupils to become part of the Young, Gifted and Talented academy; formerly the National Academy for Gifted Youth (NAGTY).  This provides a range of experiences and resources to allow pupils themselves to develop their own ability.
