Subjects > ICT > KS3 (Year 7/8/9)

Pupils at years 7, 8 and 9 follows the Key Stage 3 (KS3) National Strategy as laid down by the Dfes. We combine schemes of work from the National Strategy with ICT study texts from Nelson Thornes, giving our lower school students a thorough introduction to the subject. Pupils will learn not only the necessary skills to be able to use ICT products, but also the understanding of when and how to use these skills to produce relevant materials for different target audiences - ICT capability, not just ICT skills. Part way through Year 9, pupils will start on the new Certificate in Digital Applications (CIDA) which they continue with throughout Key
Stage 4 and gives them the opportunity to gain the equivalent of two GCSEs. For more details see below.

INTRO lessons at beginning of Year 7, Year 8

There are introduction lessons that are designed to show pupils how to connect to and navigate the ICT systems at Snaith School. Expectations of conduct in ICT rooms is also covered and pupils are made aware of Health and Safety issues which are particular to working with ICT equipment. Some time is spent on setting up the pupils' areas for work that will be created later in the course.

  • Pupils will learn how to logon to the school network and navigate
  • Create folders for storing work produced in Year 7
  • Understand the schools expectations of ICT conduct on the network and using peripherals
  • Understand how the pupils will be assessed in ICT and from this how their level is awarded.
